JON SLUSHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP INFO
History
Following the death of their son and brother from brain cancer, the Slusher Family wanted to establish a non-profit foundation as Jonathan’s legacy. The non-profit (501-c-3) entity supports education in the form of scholarships focused on Journalism/Communications.
AWARD
Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000.00 for one year
Locations
Six designated area high schools, three in Hunterdon County and three in Morris County. The schools are: Voorhees High School, North Hunterdon Regional High School and Hunterdon Central in Hunterdon County. In Morris County, Mt. Olive High School, Mendham High School and Morris Central High School.
Qualifications
- Student must submit an essay detailing his/her view of the importance of Journalism/Communications. Essay must be free of spelling errors and must express the writer’s thoughts in an intelligent and cohesive manner
- GPA of at least 3.0
- Scholarships are given only for Journalism/Communications. Other majors will not be considered.
- High school seniors can apply at their school resource councilors office.
- Because Jon was a newspaper editor and an avid runner, the Slusher Family decided to combine the two loves of Jon’s life for his legacy, so the Jon Slusher 5K Race was initiated as a yearly fund raiser for the Foundation.
